On this Tuesday, the 12th of July, a passage from one Harry Potter book is going to be read on NBC's Today show, the Today show is three hours long, ( from 7:00 am to 10:00 am) and in on NBC (ch. 4). The passage will be read by Jim Dale, the person who reads all the HP books on cassests and CD's. NBC will not tell anyone which book it;s going to be, because they want it to be a surprise! Mystery of next Potter death

Could it be Hagrid, the extravagantly bearded gamekeeper? Dobbie the elf, perhaps? Or even Dumbledore, headmaster of the school for wizards?
Harry Potter fans are on tenterhooks, for JK Rowling has revealed that she will kill off a character in the next novel. Surely it won't be Harry himself?

The axe has already fallen on Harry's godfather, Sirius Black, who was done in by Rowling in the fifth novel, Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, published last summer.
But Rowling, 39, revealed the latest plot twist on her website. A fan asked her: "Are you going to kill off any more characters?"

The reply came: "Yes, sorry." But readers must endure an agonising wait, for Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince will not be published until next year.

Names in the frame include Harry himself, a long shot at 33-1; Hagrid, favourite at 3-1; and Dumbledore (4-1).

But perhaps it could be Harry's friends Ron Weasley ( 12 - 1 ) or Hermione Granger (10-1)? Harry and Hermione shared their first kiss in the last novel - an experience that left the young wizard feeling "tingling and paralysed" - so her death would create rather a stir.

Other characters who might meet their maker are Harry's Uncle Vernon ( 5- 1) and professors
Snape (7-1) and McGonagall (6-1).
Rowling, who said she wept after killing Sirius, gave fans a teasing extract from the forthcoming book on her website. It reads: "He looked rather like an old lion.

"There were streaks of grey in his tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace, even though he walked with a slight limp."

Rowling has said the book will precede a final novel in which Harry will finally face his enemy, Lord Voldemort.
She has refused to say who the " half- blood prince" will be in the next novel, but has hinted at a romance between Hermione and Ron.
A half-blood is a wizard with a muggle (non-wizard) for a parent - such as Har ry. Rowling revealed earlier this year that all the Harry Potter books are to be rereleased in "director's cut" versions because she is unhappy with her original writing style.

Even more news on the Goblet of Fire filming!

It seems that Goblet of Fire information is just flooding in. This time CBBC Newsround has an exclusive on the filming of GOF. Contains Spoilers - Highlight Text To Read! " "When a little bird told CBBC Newsround that filming for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was going on in Oxford, we decided to go along to see who we could spot. We heard that there was filming going on at the Bodleian Library and sure enough, the tell-tale signs of big lighting trucks nearby confirmed it. I went into a bookshop to ask for directions and a friendly film crew member revealed that filming was going on in two locations. It wasn't hard to find because there were massive green signs showing you where to go! Just then, a minibus pulled up and a whole load of crew got out, so I followed them to see where they were going. They went into New College which looked like it would be used for filming Hogwarts scenes. A man carrying a long, dark coat - the costume for Mad Eye Moody - went in, followed by a car with Dame Maggie Smith who plays Professor McGonagall, in it. This was definitely the place to be to see some action! Then all of a sudden, a bucket of water from above fell on me! And then another! It turns out they were filming on the roof and were wetting it by chucking buckets of water everywhere. While drying myself off, I then heard someone shout 'Action!' and then the booming voice of Mad Eye Moody, played by Brendan Gleeson, echoed through the air. The doors to the college opened and I could see a courtyard inside. Some kids dressed in black Hogwarts robes were walking around inside, including Malfoy's pals Crabbe and Goyle. Then about 50 kids dressed in raincoats to cover their robes came out in rows of two - as if they were actually in school - and marched up to the Bodleian Library where they disappeared inside. Soon word spread that Potter filming was going on and a crowd of people had gathered to have a peek. But the action was over after that and it all went quiet until lunchtime when food was brought in for the hungry film stars.

Mugglenet.com has recieved more news on the Goblet of Fire. This time it contains information on what is reportedly cut out and left in the movie. Contains Major Spoilers. It contains MAJOR SPOILERS on the upcoming GOF film.

Here's a breakdown: (BEGIN SPOILERS) What's been cut: the SPEW storyline altogether, opening scene with the Dursleys, the Hogwarts express (there are shots of it, but nothing in the train,) and the wand weighing. What's still in: Creepy opening scene with Voldemort, Wormtail and Nagini. The Dark Mark scene, the "Potter Stinks" bit, the skrewts, the horntail challenge, the merpeople challenge (should be very cool!) The final challenge, although the spider may NOT be in it. (My source didn't remember seeing it.) The Sphinx is in. So is Dobby and Winky, the Portkeys, Crouch freaking out, the Pensieve scene and Cedric's end. Things that are drastically cut: Yule Ball, Quidditch World Cup, Rita Skeeter stuff (she's in it, but not as much as the book,) Harry stressing over the egg clue, Snape scenes (he's not in it much,) Hagrid & Maxine love story (it's there, but just reduced to a few brief moments for humor,) Dumbledore's humor (again... they never get him right!) Note on the ending: they manage to get it all pretty much in, which is surprising given what's going on. END SPOILERS. I have to tell you, I was disappointed when I heard they cut this from two movies to one, but it sounds like they really pulled it off. The second challenge really acts as a mid-movie action sequence that should blow the doors off of a lot of what we've seen so far in the films. The final challenge also sounds amazing, and the ending should be really creepy. I know they say this with every movie, but this one could be really eerie (not just "dark") because of the very evil Voldemort scenes. Not sure what the young ones will think of it. This stands to do justice to the book, and be the best movie of the series! (And after Cuaron's work, that's saying something!) Please remember that none of this information has been confirmed or denied by Warner Bros - so treat it as a RUMOUR! On a personal note I'm not be surprised at what they may have cut out of the movie.

-It will be 1997 in correlation with the books.
-Harry Potter celebrates his 17th year of life.
-Rumoured title is Harry Potter and the Forest of Shadows.
-It is a fact, unless J. K. Rowling changes it, that the last word of the book is "scar." (She said in an online chat that she has already written the last chapter of this book.)
-People are wondering if Harry Potter may pass into the wizarding world. That is to say, if he might even come of age - people are speculating that he may die! J. K. Rowling has even expressed interest in the fact that people believe he'll be alive for his eighteenth birthday. He may actually die.
-J. K. Rowling alluded to the possibility that Severus Snape will be redeemed and might fall in love (or might have fallen in love). I knew that already, huh? ::grins:: Click here to see what I mean. (The redemption is probably something besides or juxtaposed to being an ex-Death Eater and/or having to feign devotion to Lord Voldemort again.)

I got a weird article from "The Quibbler"....here it is:

Is Trelawney a puppet for Voldemort?
What do we really know about Trelawney? She teaches Divination at Hogwarts, she seems to be a joke to rest of the staff, some of the students believe her to be a fraud, she is in love with Lupin (see Quibbler 2), and she was defended by Dumbledore in Order of the Phoenix. She is also the granddaughter of a “true Seer” and the holder of many prophecies about our Harry. But, have you ever noticed how she refers to Voldemort?
In every book and passage, people who are on “Harry’s side” refer to Voldemort as You-Know-Who or get scared away at the mention of anything about him. People who are on “Voldemort’s side” always refer to him as the Dark Lord. If you look carefully, this is how Trelawney refers to him in her prophecies. Since we have never really had a look at other types of prophecies, we do not know if this is a trend or just something about Trelawney’s predictions. With what we know, though, we can guess that her prophecies mean one of two things.
Firstly, we can assume that Trelawney’s predictions are legitimate. After all, they are stored in the Department of Mysteries and act like true prophecies. We know that Trelawney has enough Seer blood in her to have the capability to make a true prophecy. Also, Dumbledore believes her prophecies to be true enough to hire her and eventually defend her later on against Umbridge. It seems kind of fishy though…
Which brings us to option two: Trelawney is working either under own will or someone else’s to prophesy events to happen. This can mean a variety of things. If Trelawney is working under her own will, perhaps she is trying to brainwash certain people (Dumbledore, Harry, et cetera) to get them onto Voldemort’s side. More likely, though, an outside force to aid Voldemort is controlling Trelawney. Perhaps her “trance-like states” only occur when she is being controlled (such as through occlumency). If this is true, perhaps Dumbledore identified it that evening in the Hog’s Head and that is why he hired her. If this were true, he could monitor the trances and the activities of Voldemort.
I personally believe that Trelawney is going to play a huge part in the next two books. There is a definite reason that Dumbledore hired her in the first place, but allowing her to stay at the end of Order of the Phoenix definitely is a big move. Yes, she is annoying and Harry dislikes her, but she is the key to his fate. Why her, you ask? Well, we do not really know at this point because we do not know enough about her. But, please consider my theory about her being on the dark side or being controlled by the dark side. Rowling decided to use the specific wording for a reason.
Again, thank you all for being such loyal readers and I appreciate your patience. My next article will be a difficult one for some of you to stomach because it will be very very controversial. Here is a hint: the Weasleys use time travel a lot, so what if Arthur Weasley knows what will happen to Harry and uses him to help win the Minister of Magic position...???

Book Six Theories

We've all heard that Dumbledore knows pretty much everything that goes on at Hogwarts. He also didn't care if he lost all his acclaim except taking his face off the chocolate frog cards. Perhaps Dumbledore is using the chocolate frog cards of himself in the same way that the portraits of old headmasters spy on others. After all, look at all the times Harry and Ron have gotten chocolate frog cards with his picture on them. --Submitted by Sara*Emerson's Note: That's definitely possible, but maybe it was just a humorous quote JKR added to remind us why Dumbledore is so cool.

There is much speculation that we haven't heard the last of Professor Trelawny's prophecies. It is likely that she will make another before the series concludes, so why not book six?

Harry and Voldemort can't duel because Fawkes's tail feather is in both wands causing the reverse spell effect. So Harry isn't going to be able to use his wand against Voldemort's wand; the power to kill him is going to have to come from somewhere else. Where or what it is, I don't know, but it can't be wand magic.

Sir Patrick Delaney Podmore (the head of the Headless Hunt) could be related to Sturgis Podmore from the Order of the Phoenix.

Dudley beat up a ten-year old named Mark Evans, who, coincidentally, shares a last name with Harry's mother. I dont think he will be Harry's lost brother because he's 10 (meaning Lily didnt die "that" night - which is impossible due to her protection on Harry). However, maybe Lily and Petunia had a brother?

An interesting anagram: "persues Evans" = "Severus Snape". Could Snape have been in love with Lily? He certainly hated James; He could even have been "the source" that warned Dumbledore and the order that Voldermort was after James and Lily. Could this also have been the motive for Snape becoming a spy?*Note from Adam: It has been pointed out that "persues" should actually be spelt "pursues" - This makes this anagram void.

From what was said in book five, it would be logical to assume that Harry is Sirius's heir. So not only will Harry inherit Sirius's fortune and properties, but he will be the owner of 12 Grimmauld Place, and Kreacher's master. Harry is therefore going to have to control his feelings regarding the betrayal of Sirius (from Kreacher), and will have more responsibilities.
Percy wrote a letter for Ron which attacked Harry and Dumbledore - or so it seems! If the letter is read in another way, warnings for the group begin to appear: advice about Umbridge taking control of Hogwarts; Possible removal of Dumbledore from the Headmaster´s office; the Minister of Magic trying to portray Harry as a psychotic guy; and lots of others. Could this suggest Percy is working for the Order (undercover), and perhaps Mr. Weasley and Percy, in the need of a cover staged the fight?

On page 861 of the American version of OoTP, Nearly-Headless Nick tells Harry, "I know nothing of the secrets of death... I believe learned wizards study the matter in the Department of Mysteries." I'm assuming that Nick is referring directly or indirectly to the veil that Sirius fell through. It's entirely reasonable for the veil to be a connection, gateway, portal, whatever, to another plane: the plane where people go when they die. The veil is possibly an experiment by such 'learned wizards' trying to contact the dead or make a connection to this other plane. In this case, as Sirius didn't die from Bellatrix's spell, but merely from crossing the one-way gateway into this other plane, then the whispering voices that Harry hears are the voices of the dead, and this leaves the 'veil' open for later contact with Sirius - assuming that if one gets close enough, he or she can actually talk with the dead.

I believe Mr. Weasley will become the Minister of Magic. The reasons are two: Fudge will probably be thrown out of office for not telling anyone about Voldemort; Ron said (in book 5 that "they have as much chance of winning the house cup as dad becoming Minister of Magic." And when Ron jokes about something, he's usually right. Who better for Dumbledore to place at the top than Mr. Weasley?

Recycling of a book 5 theory that never materialized, but could in future books:
In the first book, Hagrid told Harry he didn't think Voldemort had enough human left in him to die. In the fourth book, Voldemort needed human blood to bring him back to life. At the end of book 4, after Harry explained what Wormtail and Voldemort did to him, Dumbledore had a 'look of triumph' in his eyes, could this possibly be because Voldemort was human-enough to die?

On page 835 of the American verision of the OotP, Dumbledore said he protected Harry with old magic that Voldemort hated and underestimated, or in other words, Lily's lingering protection that flows in Harry's blood. Later on in the conversation, Dumbledore said the locked door in the Department of Mysteries has a force that is "more wonderful and more terrible than death." He also said that Harry has such quantities of that power and Voldemort has none. Voldemort couldn't possess Harry because "he could not bear to reside in a body so full of the force he detests." Dumbledore told Harry that he didn't need Occlumency after all because his heart had saved him. So could all of this mean that Lily's lingering protection was love? Could this type of strong love be the power in the locked room that Harry has and Voldemort doesn't? Plus, maybe Voldemort couldn't possess Harry because Harry's body was full of his mother's love. Voldemort couldn't stand to be in a body filled with motherly love. Voldemort never knew what a mother's love for her child is because his mother died when he was born. And he certainly didn't get any love from his father, who dumped him in an orphanage.*Note from Jamie: Maybe 'love' is just what JKR wants us to think and she has told us all this to throw us off scent. There may be another power that Harry has that resides inside the Department of Mysteries.

Could Harry be a metamorphmagus? In SS/PS JKR writes that Harry had grown back his hair over night after his Aunt Petunia had given him an awful haircut. You obviously have to concentrate on changing your appearance if you are a metamorphmagus, and Harry was concentrating very hard on his hair because he was worried about the way it looked.

Lucius Malfoy was a guest at the Quidditch World Cup, and he was credited for making a significant contribution to St. Mungo's. In Order of the Phoenix, we are continually reminded of how Lucius buys people, such as the Minister of Magic. Also, someone made the poor guy snuff it in the same ward as the Longbottoms. Could it be that Lucius Malfoy is seeing to it that Neville's parent's conditions won't improve? I believe so, and I also believe that there is more to those gum wrappers than we know as well.

Is loopy6 really Emma?
The whole loopy6 story started shortly after the first HP movie. A girl called loopy6 on Neopets claimed she was Emma Watson. However, almost every message she posted contained American spellings and most people dismissed her as an imposter. Not to be deterred loopy6 took a transcript from an interview (that lots of other sites had) and added a bit about the Neopets account. She put it on her own (hobby) website and claimed that this was proof that she was the real Emma. Lots of people were fooled by it, and it was even discussed on the Official Harry Potter Website. Of course, lots of people recognised the interview, and realised that she had simply altered it.

This 'story' was on Emma Prodigy, written by Sarah, Emma's supposed cousin. Sarah claimed Emma was out shopping with a friened and a boy came up to her and said, "Hey, are you Emma Watson?" Emma said no, and that her name was Claire, and got her friend to play along. The guy kept insisting she was Emma and she kept denying it. Thease are Random facts about the 6th book. If you did not read the books until the 5th, I recomend you NOT to read thease facts because they can spoil everything!

-The sixth book is yet to be titled, and don't believe anything otherwise.
-By the ends of books 6 and 7 "you'll have all the back story you'll need", says JK Rowling, and a prequel will not be necessary
-There will be a new Minister of Magic, no more Mr. Fudge.
-We will find out what happened to Hagrid's half brother Grawp.
-He will be a bit more controllable in book 6.
-The Dursleys are in the next book, but Harry's stay with them will be the shortest yet. In book 5 he stayed for 4 weeks, so we know his stay will be less than 4 weeks.
-Cho Chang will not be a romantic interest of Harry in Book 6, however there will be a "little romance" for Harry says JK.

Could Harry Get an Oscar?

Hollywoodreporter.com is already discussing Oscar and Golden Globe possibilities, and mentions the latest Harry Potter film:

Warner Bros.' "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," directed by Alfonso Cuaron, attracted very favorable reviews, many of which called it the best of the three "Potter" films to date. Cuaron, an Oscar nominee for his original screenplay for "Y tu mama tambien," could get a directing nomination. Screenwriter Steve Kloves, who received Oscar and Golden Globes nods for adapting "Wonder Boys" and also got Writers Guild of America nominations for "Wonder" and his original screenplay "The Fabulous Baker Boys," could receive new noms for "Azkaban."

John Williams' well-reviewed "Azkaban" score, too, could get nods from Academy and Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. voters. Williams has received so many Oscar and Globe nominations (along with a few wins, too) over the years that the list is too long to include here. It goes without saying that you're probably not going to lose money by betting on Williams' score to be nominated. The film's visual effects are obviously also good grist for the awards mill. And if "Azkaban" casts all the right magical spells it could conjure up both a best picture Oscar nomination and a best motion picture -- drama Golden Globe nomination.

Isn't Dan getting too old to play Harry Potter?

Uh... no!!! Contrary to the incessant media speculation, Dan is still very close in age to Harry. For example, throughout Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry is supposed to be 13 years old (he has his 13th birthday at the beginning of the book and is just coming up to his 14th birthday when the book ends). When Prisoner of Azkaban began filming at the beginning of 2003, Dan was about 13½ years old and he was nearly 14½ by the time filming was complete. So the difference in age between Dan and Harry for that film is about six months at best. By the time filming begins on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which is expected to be around April 2004, the difference in age will have stretched out to about nine months (Harry turns 14 at the start of the book/film, Dan will be about 14¾ by the time filming starts) but that's still pretty close. As far as we're concerned, he still looks and acts the part and that's all that matters!

Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) have slapped a M15+ rating onto the latest Harry Potter movie stating that it is too mature for children to see. The new rating of M15+ was given because of some scenes that the OFLC deemed to have "horror elements" included; those scenes feature Ron being attacked by a werewolf and a fight between a werewolf and Professor Snape. Both previous Harry Potter movies had a rating of PG in Australia.

Eagle-eyed fans spot errors in PoA

According to Moviemistakes.com eagle-eyed Harry Potter fans have spotted 15 errors in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban with most of the errors in the movie related to the continuity of the film. The film has only been in release for one week, so except additional fans to try & spot more errors.

When Harry is attacking Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle near the Shrieking Shack while under the invisibility cloak, Harry moves very rapidly, as he attacks two people at the same time. They couldn't possibly have been hit by Harry as he was swinging one of them around by the scarf. Also he is far away from this action and no contact is seen to have happened.

When Harry and Hermione are watching the punch scene again from a distance, you can tell that it's Hermione's body double because her hair is longer and straighter.

PoA makes more than $4.5 million in its first two days in Australia

PoA has the third-biggest grossing release in Australian history.
Taking a massive $4.55 million in its first two days puts it directly behind Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which made $5.27 million, and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - $5.2 million.

PoA added an estimated $10.9 million from 3,855 theaters on Friday for the top spot. That's a huge 71.6% drop from its first day earnings of $38.3 million last week. The $130 million-budgeted sequel has collected $133.9 million after eight days. "Sorcerer's Stone" had collected $152.8 million and "Chamber of Secrets" $117.1 million in the same amount of time.
